To me, writing is like baking. You have to perform certain steps in order for the 'cake' to turn out right. Sometimes, you can take it an even step further to create something magnificent. Writing is just the same way. Like a cake, you have 'ingredients' that you must have in order to 'fill' the main substance, in a cakes instance, the batter. In writing, the supporting paragraphs.
Just like a cake, writing also has some 'key' ingridents as well that are used to help support and build it up. However, unlike a cake, writing is more open and flexable from writer to writer. One might say it is this way, another this way.
Like everything that is done in life, it must have a beginning or in essay terms, a beginning paragraph or a thesis statement. The thesis statement gives the reader and insight as to what the article is about and an idea to the content that is in the article.
The essay/article then continues to explain the supporting fact of the thesis statement. It can either help prove or disapprove of the idea or the subject of the essays article. However, in order to do this, we need to look at some types of 'ingreidents' we can mix into the essay.
One very improtant tool is called "Definition." Without this, one cannot explain anything or define anything to another person without first breaking it down and apart into pieces that can be understood and eventually explained.
Definition is such a heavy relieance on our culture, society would cease to exist without definitions nad explinations. Definitions are supported by several things in writing. I will list however, what I feel is the most important that helps support definitions to allow the readers to understand is called Persuasive themes.
Persuasive themes are the setting of how the specific “theme” is aimed, to invoke feelings of nationalism, tradition, leader glorification and scapegoat. This is used to persuade strategy, goals and intent to the audiences.
This is used as it is said, to 'persuay' the reader to the view of the writies view with supporting facts and details that are filled with emotion and subjects or items we can relate to.
Two types of persuasive themes and sadly, the only two I currently remember at this time are Plasticity and Familiar Gazes.
Plasticity:This is used to reshape the story. Like the game of telephone, the “phrase” or in this case, the “story” is never exactly told the same each time it is mentioned. This allows one in a sense to reshape the story and how it happened to their viewpoint.
Familial gazes:These are used to help inspire memories or moments in which we are familiar with and can relate too. The perfume my mother ways is one familial to me. Even if some other person is wearing it, each time I smell it my mother always comes into my mind.
These can further be used in what is known as compare and contrast. This is something we deal with everyday of our life. An example is, when we go shopping, or even to pick out which clothes to wear for the day to go shopping. We constantly compare and contrast items against each other. This allows variety for without comparing or contrasting, the world would seem dull and grey. Like some of those old black and white movies.
I believe that is in itself, self explanitory on how compare and contrasting work. There are many more different themes within writing but as said before, it all depends ont eh view of what is and isn't important or needed in the essay.
