Sweet Dreams

The end of this class is coming. Is it really that close to completion? How sad.

However, I might as well as wrap things up. Some of the things I learned from this class on writing in general is more tools I can use to create a better essay and also better my writing in general. One of them, I knew about in a sense yet bothered not to actually define it or understand why and its importance in society. It is the word 'Definition.'

Without this, one cannot explain anything or define anything to another person without first breaking it down and apart into pieces that can be understood and eventually explained. Definition is heavily influenced on our culture, society would cease to exist without definitions nad explinations. Definitions are supported by several things in writing.

Another thing is persuasive themes. I knew little of them but I did not now how much impact, like Definitions, had not only in speaking but also in writing. Just as the name states, they are used to persuay the reader in the views of the writer.

I get it we are to do a wrap up of what we learned over the school term . . .

But honestly . . . .

I'm dead brained, its hard to focus . . . . AAaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddddd

This all I really thought was of amazement was what I stated above.

I suppose however, I learned a few other things, like how to really make an essay and even a bloody research paper more . . . . to the teachers liking and in a format, it is smooth and well written I should say.

It is also amazing on how psychology can intwin with english for this show that subjects are no longer just a single subject, but a mix of every subject and topic known.

I will conclude for now.

I guess[?]

Baking a cake

To me, writing is like baking. You have to perform certain steps in order for the 'cake' to turn out right. Sometimes, you can take it an even step further to create something magnificent. Writing is just the same way. Like a cake, you have 'ingredients' that you must have in order to 'fill' the main substance, in a cakes instance, the batter. In writing, the supporting paragraphs.

Just like a cake, writing also has some 'key' ingridents as well that are used to help support and build it up. However, unlike a cake, writing is more open and flexable from writer to writer. One might say it is this way, another this way.

Like everything that is done in life, it must have a beginning or in essay terms, a beginning paragraph or a thesis statement. The thesis statement gives the reader and insight as to what the article is about and an idea to the content that is in the article.

The essay/article then continues to explain the supporting fact of the thesis statement. It can either help prove or disapprove of the idea or the subject of the essays article. However, in order to do this, we need to look at some types of 'ingreidents' we can mix into the essay.

One very improtant tool is called "Definition." Without this, one cannot explain anything or define anything to another person without first breaking it down and apart into pieces that can be understood and eventually explained.

Definition is such a heavy relieance on our culture, society would cease to exist without definitions nad explinations. Definitions are supported by several things in writing. I will list however, what I feel is the most important that helps support definitions to allow the readers to understand is called Persuasive themes.

Persuasive themes are the setting of how the specific “theme” is aimed, to invoke feelings of nationalism, tradition, leader glorification and scapegoat. This is used to persuade strategy, goals and intent to the audiences.
This is used as it is said, to 'persuay' the reader to the view of the writies view with supporting facts and details that are filled with emotion and subjects or items we can relate to.

Two types of persuasive themes and sadly, the only two I currently remember at this time are Plasticity and Familiar Gazes.

Plasticity:This is used to reshape the story. Like the game of telephone, the “phrase” or in this case, the “story” is never exactly told the same each time it is mentioned. This allows one in a sense to reshape the story and how it happened to their viewpoint.

Familial gazes:These are used to help inspire memories or moments in which we are familiar with and can relate too. The perfume my mother ways is one familial to me. Even if some other person is wearing it, each time I smell it my mother always comes into my mind.

These can further be used in what is known as compare and contrast. This is something we deal with everyday of our life. An example is, when we go shopping, or even to pick out which clothes to wear for the day to go shopping. We constantly compare and contrast items against each other. This allows variety for without comparing or contrasting, the world would seem dull and grey. Like some of those old black and white movies.
I believe that is in itself, self explanitory on how compare and contrasting work. There are many more different themes within writing but as said before, it all depends ont eh view of what is and isn't important or needed in the essay.

Wrapping lose ends

Writing an essay to me is like making a cake.

You have to do certain steps in order for the 'cake' to turn out right but unlike a cake in a sense, the steps as to how you do it in a way do not necissarily matter. To a point. All essays however, need a thesis or an introduction that does one of the following or all: Catches the readers attention, briefly gives an opening on the topic. briefly explains the essays' content or context. These are known as the 'elements' of a story or even an essay. Like a story, it must have a middle, beginning and end but unlike a story, it is not neccisarily needed to know all the key

Another thing that is also important in an essay are themes called, "Persuasive themes."

Persuasive themes are the setting of how the specific “theme” is aimed, to invoke feelings of nationalism, tradition, leader glorification and scapegoat. This is used to persuade strategy,, goals and intent to the audiences.

Plasticity:
This is used to reshape the story. Like the game of telephone, the “phrase” or in this case, the “story” is never exactly told the same each time it is mentioned. This allows one in a sense to reshape the story and how it happened to their viewpoint.

Familial gazes:
These are used to help inspire memories or moments in which we are familiar with and can relate too. The perfume my mother ways is one familial to me. Even if some other person is wearing it, each time I smell it my mother always comes into my mind.

Compare and Contrast:
This is something we deal with everyday of our life. An example is, when we go shopping, or even to pick out which clothes to wear for the day to go shopping. We constantly compare and contrast items against each other. This allows variety for without comparing or contrasting, the world would seem dull and grey. Like some of those old black and white movies.

There are many more then just the two I listed however, these two to me are themost important for they allow me and any one else in general, to get a sense of what the essay is trying to talk about and its aim.

Another critical item in an essay that heavily impacts the readers is 'definitions.'

In this world, to explain anything of it, there is a process which is used through a 'Definition,' which means to define or explain what is being told or discribed in context either verbally or through writing to allow the reader or the listener to understand what is being explained and defined. Without this process, there would be no understanding and in a sense, no form of communications. Definitions are an important aspect of everyday life.

They help explain how things work, why things work and so-on and so-forth. This also requiers at the same time, a good communication skill to construct a understandable translation of the definition. In-depth definitions not only give the meaning of what it.

For without these [and a few dozen more, too tired/sick atm to list them all] an essay would be incomplete and rather hard to understand.

Hm.

"Something that has grown in the shadows, Gollum-like."
This caught my intrest at the phrase it was used. Especially the word Gollum-like. Gollumn is a ficitional character-creature from J.R.R Tolkiens the "Lord of the Rings" series and in the book called the "Hobbit." For those of you tha thave never heard of the these two book series, the Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel about an evil rule named Sauron he creates this ring of power that is to rule all the other rings of power given. The novels then go into the final battle that ultimately destroys the one ring once and for all, restoring peace to the land.

The fact that they used Gollum, is indeed intresting. Gollum was a character that became corrupted by the ring and eventually began living in the shadows of a massive cave. He became twisted and cruel. Grown in the shadows is also something similar for its used when something evil, dark, twisted, corrupted, and evenn something most foul is brought into the light, revealed for what it truely is.

Ms. Drnovsek-Zorko said that she had signed “out of civic carelessness” and that it was her conviction that ACTA “limits and withholds the freedom of engagement on the largest and most significant network in human history.”

I am more intrested in the statement, "Limits and withholds the freedom of engagement on the largest an most significant network in human history." This is obviously, the internet which indeed, is one of the most largest and efficient way of communication through the entire world. For it to say it "limits and withholds freedoms" is something intresting. Now, to explain a little more.

ACTA stands for Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. It's the European version of the United States bills known as SOPA [Stop Online Piracy Act] and PIPA [Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act]. All three of these bills are designed to put a block or a 'filter' is the best word, on what goes in and on the internet. This would allow goverment agencies to determine which 'sites' are copyrighted and which are pirated.

It would indeed limit not only freedomes, but rights upon the World Wide Web as to what the People of the World post on the web.

Mr. Arif, the opponent to the measure in the European Parliament, said that ACTA was “wrong in both form and substance.”

"Wrong in both form and substance." Now this is intresting. Form and substance themselves give it a little more of a intresting appeal.

form[fawrm]

noun
1. external appearance of a clearly defined area, as distinguished from color or material; configuration
2. the shape of a thing or person.
3. a body, especially that of a human being.
4. a dummy having the same measurements as a human body, used for fitting or displaying clothing: a dressmaker's form.
5. something that gives or determines shape; a mold.

sub·stance [suhb-stuhns]

noun
1. that of which a thing consists; physical matter or material: form and substance.
2. a species of matter of definite chemical composition: a chalky substance.
4. the subject matter of thought, discourse, study, etc.
5. the actual matter of a thing, as opposed to the appearance or shadow; reality.

Funny, both terms are the first term and the last term being used to discribe the body of ACTA. In other words, what it is made out of and what is compused of is wrong due to WHAT is is and wrong because of WHY it is. It is a crude way of trying to control and stop online piracy across the World Wide Web that will not only limit activity but could in fact, danger communications international.

Knowing

In this world, to explain anything of it, there is a process which is used through a 'Definition,' which means to define or explain what is being told or discribed in context either verbally or through writing to allow the reader or the listener to understand what is being explained and defined. Without this process, there would be no understanding and in a sense, no form of communications. Definitions are an important aspect of everyday life.

They help explain how things work, why things work and so-on and so-forth. This also requiers at the same time, a good communication skill to construct a understandable translation of the definition. In-depth definitions not only give the meaning of what it is but why it is as it is.

The article that me and my group chose for the article assigment and to tie it into this assignment, was about the two bills congress tried to pass called SOPA and PIPA. SOPA stands for Stop Online Piracy Act and PIPA stands for Protect Intellectual Property Act. Two bills that will not only threaten communications going in and out of the United States prior through the internet but could lead to a thousands of arrests and prosecutions across the nation itself. It also violates the human rights to freedom of speech and freedom to share and give out information.

True, the article that was chosen was in fact, an opinion but even it held its valid facts and information that allowed the opinion to stand, supported by the facts that were listed and given. The article states why the opinion was given and what was said as it was then suppported by a fact or a statement about the two bills that are in truth.

The article then goes into a discription of what the bills would do based off the facts and then the author gives his/her opinion as to what will happen or what he/she believes in from what hte bill is statein in its context.

Visual horrors

It's amazing on how you would relate from a male to a female, or even a particular group type. You wouldn't want to try to sell something you would normally sell to a male then to a female. Each 'class' or co-culture has its own "setup". This in all is indeed amazing. Entrepreneurs have long since way back then, figured out this trick and even in writing, its used to per sway a particular group upon a topic or an idea. All deal with what is known as rhetorical tools. Below I will list five of such tools and believe me, there is more then five [I Googled it.]

[[Also, for some reason, the bold font kinda got . . . stuck so this is why this particular paragraph is in bold]]:

Persuasion of the cheap:

There is a saying that goes as the following, “When the rich wage war it’s the poor that die,” or, “It’s the poor that suffer.” Something along the lines of that. And indeed, the rich in fact, hold the authority and the power. They can control what those of the “lesser” class hears, sees and views as to what they want. This is often used in the military to get new “recruits” to join, [as discussed today in class].

This also ties in what is known as: Persuasive Themes.

SAME

If the world was the same, it would be a very dull and boring place. There would be nothing to compare, for example colors. There are so many colors, it hurts the mind to think of how many. If there was however only one color, it would be rather boring and pointless to try to compare which shade of purple looks better for example, in a bedroom verses which shade of purple to dress up as.

Comparing and Contrasting form a balance in life and in writing by allowing the view to see, notice and relate the differences between the two. It also allows an indivdiual a choice between the two as well as an understanding of the world around them. Compare and Contrast gives us an indepth look at our life around us by offering differences that we can relate to and similarties we can merge with.
